Book Summary
Alices Adventures In Wonderland: Pop-Up Book is an enjoyable presentation of Lewis Carroll’s book in a pop-up format by one of the most reputed paper engineers in the field, Robert Sabuda. The book has seven, large, beautifully crafted pop-ups which tell the story in an innovative manner. What adds to the magnificence is the use of acetate pull-tab scenes, printed foil and a peep show which depicts Alice falling into wonderland. This pop-up book is extremely faithful to the original story, which tells the story of a young girl called Alice who falls into a fantasy world through a rabbit hole. She enters a world full of anthropomorphic creatures. Upon entering the strange world Alice encounters weird happenings. She shrinks in size upon drinking a fluid and grows into a giant after eating a piece of cake. Her confused and fearful tears seem to fill an entire room and she talks in French to a mouse. She converses with numerous animals about things such as how to get all dried up after being drenched in her tears and they all decide to run in circles in order to get dry. The mouse is also seen giving a lecture on William the Conqueror. The story, which is both nonsensical and entertaining, continues with Alice encountering many other strange creatures. She grows to gigantic proportions time and again and has to be brought back to being a tiny creature by the other animals in the fantasy world. She meets a blue caterpillar who smokes a hookah and who poses difficult questions to her and then gives her a mushroom which can make her grow and shrink in size. She meets the Duchess and her Cheshire Cat and then attends a Mad Tea Party, where she is bombarded with ridiculous questions which irritate her. She then meets three live playing cards who are painting white roses red because the Queen despises white roses. Alice meets the King and Queen and is invited to join the Queen in a game of croquet and soon everything turns into chaos.Alices Adventures In Wonderland: Pop-Up Book was published in a new edition in 2003 by Simon & Schuster Childrens. It is available in hardcover.Key Features:The book contains intricate pop-ups which tell the story in a new and amusing manner.
